Bengal’s Dairy Boom: Amul’s ₹700-Crore Mega Plant Takes Shape

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently laid the foundation stone, through virtual mode, for the ₹700-crore Amul Bengal Dairy Project in Sankrail, Howrah district, marking a major investment in West Bengal's dairy processing infrastructure.

The upcoming facility is designed to be the world's largest curd production plant, with the capacity to process around 30 lakh litres of milk per day and manufacture up to 10 lakh kilograms of curd and other cultured dairy products daily.

The project is expected to strengthen the State's dairy value chain by expanding milk procurement, creating processing capacity, and providing a stable market for dairy producers. It is projected to benefit more than 1.25 lakh milk-producing farmers across West Bengal, including over 30,000 women dairy farmers.

As part of its broader expansion plans in the State, Amul also intends to establish two additional ice cream manufacturing plants to further enhance its dairy processing and product portfolio in West Bengal.
